7-Mar-08: CHAMBERT scores 91/100!
In a recent international wine tasting
organisted by the german WEINWIRTSCHAFT magazine, our
CHAMBERT 2003 wine scored 91/100
(note: 90+ scores are given to Outstanding wines: wines of
superior character and style).
We are very delighted about
this high score as it confirms Chambert's position amongst top
quality Malbec of international standing. But what delights us
most is that this score goes to our main cuvée CHAMBERT
with over 100,000 bottles produced! It's almost easy to
score with a garage wine cuvée of 5,000 to 10,000 bottle (you
basically keep the best berries you can find)...but reaching
excellence over all the vineyard so the main (and high volume)
cuvée hits high scores is a much bigger challenge that Chambert
takes every year.
Therefore, with this 91/100
score, it is the whole Chambert vineyard excellence that is
awarded.
We are not real fans about scores, we much
prefer to express the wine character, its complexity, flavors and
texture...but many wine professionals (not just R. Parker) need a
simple way to summarize all this into one flat number. Here is how
to read a score:
A score 96-100: Extraordinary wine of
profound and complex character displaying all the attributes
expected of a classic wine of its variety. Wines of this caliber
are worth a special effort to find, purchase, and consume.
90 - 95: Outstanding wine of exceptional complexity and
character. In short, these are terrific wines.
80 - 89: A barely above average to very good wine
displaying various degrees of finesse and flavor as well as
character with no noticeable flaws.
70 - 79: An average wine with little distinction except that it is
a soundly made. In essence, a straightforward, innocuous wine.
60 - 69: A below average wine containing noticeable deficiencies,
such as excessive acidity and/or tannin, an absence of flavor, or
possibly dirty aromas or flavors.
50 - 59: A wine deemed to be unacceptable.
