Next >> 10th century: the oldest known written trace of a vineyard at Chambert, in 1100 13th century: the Chambert estate and its vineyard is managed from a fortified farm known as « repaire », on the site of the current château. 1666: The « terrier » (the equivalent of a land registry) mentions the arrival of a family called Lavalette on the Chambert estate. 1690-1810: Mademoiselle de La VALETTE, followed by the LATHESE family, who had been raised to nobility, managed the estate which had attained a considerable size. Its wines were known not only in France, but also in England and Russia. 1870: the BATAILLE family acquired the estate from the Lathese family. One of the sons became a general. 1875: birth of the local poet Paul FROMENT in one of the farms on the Chambert estate. 1880: Phylloxéra struck, then General Bataille was killed in the First Wold War in 1914. These disasters destroyed a vineyard that had covered over 300 hectares. 1973: The DELGOULET-DELMAS family, wine merchants from the Correze region just to the north, purchased the abandoned estate and undertook its renaissance. 1978: The first vintage of Château Chambert won a gold medal at the national competitions of Macon and Bourg 1994: Joël DELGOULET took over management of the family estate. 2007 : the estate is bought by Philippe LEJEUNE
